Some General Guidelines for Ordering Superabrasive Wheels:
BOND SELECTION:
  • For fast stock removal where finish is not critical -- Use Grits between 60 and 100.
  • Where finish is consideration along with stock removal-- Use Grits between 120 and 180.
  • Where finish is critical with little stock removal--Use Grits of 220 and above
  • BD is used mostly in dry grinding applications.
  • BW is used in wet or dry applications, more durable than B6 in dry grinding.
  • BF is used mostly in wet grinding applications, especially good for close tolerance work.

ABRASIVE TYPE:
D - Natural diamond - fine lapping wheels
MD - Uncoated diamond. Best for low horsepower grinders. Wet applications.
ND - Nickel coated. Best for wet or dry applications. Higher horsepower. Most general purpose non-ferrous grinding
CD - Copper, coated. Suited for dry applications.
BN - Cubic boron nitride. For high speed steel and alloy grinding applications.
